Title: Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor Tahoe National Forest Series: 4749 Grade: WS-09 Respond By Date: 6/08/09
Duties: This is permanent – Fulltime position. The position will be advertised as a GS-4749-09. The position is established as a component of the Tahoe National Forest facilities maintenance division. The Primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing facilities maintenance work. The position requires knowledge and skill in using any of the accepted journey level trade methods and techniques of a wide variety of trades, such as carpentry, plumbing/pipefitting, electrical, air conditioning, masonry, painting, roofing, or sheet metal in order to identify repair requirements and perform the work; knowledge of shop mathematics to plan and complete complex and exacting projects; ability to read, interpret and apply building plans, specifications, schematics, blueprints, sketches and technical manuals; and skill in using a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish difficult tasks.
Responsible for supervising workers, either directly or through subordinate leaders, in accomplishing trades and labor work operations in a segment of an organization, a group, or work shift. Plans the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools on a day-to-day or project-by-project basis; adheres to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisors; follows customary work cycles and sequences in planning work assignments; tracks and reports progress on work assignments and requests authority to adjust worker assignments and to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules; recommends changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences, as necessary, and makes minor deviations in procedures or redirects resources to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned absences.
Job Location: This position’s duty station will be located at Nevada City, CA.
