JOB SUMMARY
Using specialized knowledge and expertise in HVAC, carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems maintenance and repair, performs a variety of skilled maintenance work to repair, and remodel District buildings, facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and fixtures; as assigned, may provide assistance, training and functional direction to less experienced employees; may coordinate the work of contractors; may serve in a lead capacity during absence of supervisor; safely operates District vehicles and equipment; practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a safe working environment for self and others; and performs related work as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs District buildings, facilities, fixtures, equipment, and property. Specialized knowledge and expertise in HVAC, carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems are required to perform a variety of duties including: asphalt repair, concrete paving and finishing; building partitions and cabinets, repairing heating, lighting, cooling, plumbing, ventilation systems and CNG equipment; installation and maintenance of network and electronic wiring; and the installation and maintenance of cameras; analyzes and diagnoses equipment problems; identifies safety hazards; safely operates District vehicles, tools, and equipment required in the normal performance of duties; may instruct, direct and/or assist employees in other classifications; may serve in a lead capacity during absence of supervisor; may coordinate and oversee the work of contractors; and performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Three years of full-time work experience successfully performing journey-level duties related to the operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical systems, such as heating, lighting, air conditioning and ventilation or skilled construction work; OR two years of related journey-level work experience plus successful completion of a post-secondary Mechanical-Electrical Technology Certification Program OR successful completion of District sponsored certification and training program.

Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid CA Class C drivers’ license at time of application with a satisfactory driving record as defined by Regional Transit; possession of, or ability to obtain a Refrigeration Recovery/Containment Certificate Type II (per Federal EPA regulations) within 90 days of appointment; possession of a Forklift Operator Certification or the ability to obtain a forklift certificate within 90 days of appointment.

Candidates must submit a current California DMV printout, issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, dated October 1, 2009, or thereafter, at time of application in order to be considered.

Other Requirements: Must have the ability to pass pre-employment tests. After employment, candidates must have all tools on the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic tool list by end of the probationary period.

The Supervising Librarian is the full supervisory class in the professional librarian series. Incumbents are responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and supervising employees and functions of an assigned branch or section of the main library. Primary responsibilities involve supervision of the unit, professional, technical and support staff; design and implementation of services and programs, outreach, reference service, budget planning and building maintenance.

Incumbents may plan, organize, schedule, supervise and review the work of professional, technical and support staff; develop and direct the implementation of organizational goals, objectives, policies procedures and work standards for activities; participate in material selection, community relations, reference and readers' advisory service and program planning, and make recommendations for service delivery; assist in developing and maintaining the branch budgets and assist in building facility planning; serve on various library committees, both within and outside of the library; represent the library in meetings with the public, citizens groups and other agencies; prepare written and oral reports; and perform related duties as assigned.

The current vacancy is 40 hours per week and exists at the North Branch Library. The eligible list resulting from this recruitment will be used to fill future additional vacancies in this classification.

Library Aide is the entry-level class in the library support series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents perform a variety of routine manual and related clerical support tasks. As experience and proficiency are gained, assignments become more varied and may require the use of judgment and independence within clearly established guidelines. Library Aides may be assigned primarily to one task or may alternate between tasks as the need arises. This class is distinguished from Library Assistant in that the latter independently performs more responsible clerical library support tasks.

Incumbents may be responsible for;

Running errands as needed, assisting in keeping all areas of the library in a clean, neat, and orderly condition and assisting in a variety of special projects and services as assigned;
Performing basic clerical tasks in support of technical support services, including performing simple mending, labeling, jacketing in preparation for circulation and minor repair of a variety of library materials;
Performing a wide range of physical motions, which may include routine and repetitive bending, reaching and pushing, moving and carrying library materials;
As needed, incumbent backs up library clerical staff, performs basic clerical duties and provides basic assistance to patrons that may include utilizing computer workstations, and cash registers; and
Performs related work as assigned.

Current vacancies are 15 hrs per wk and exist at the Central Library and Branches.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Must have sufficient strength to repeatedly lift books weighing between 1 and 10 pounds, including overhead lifting, to load transit boxes, book bins and push book trucks weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
